catharsis through downsizing

september 2022 marks the return to Lexington, a place i thought we'd leave behind us forever.

moving back didn't seem so hard or painful.

downsizing really sucked.

maybe because the two towns have always been so intertwined in my childhood that it isn't two distinct places but a hometown where boundaries and town limits are blurred by winding, curvy horse trail streets lined with colonials, cape houses, ranch style, split level, and mini-mansions.

going through decades of clutter, stuff, and memories good and bad and so much dust was painful and hopeful all at once.

what lessons have i learned from 8 days of moving?

they will come to me as i process what's happened but so far...

don't hold on to so many physical possessions - the good mixes with the trash and pretty soon you can't tell things apart.

don't buy if you can borrow.

buy quality if you must buy at all.

everyone has their category that messes you up, that you just can't let go of be it books, photos, papers, clothing, tchotchkes.

let go.

let go.

let go.
